Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

Several years ago there was a really awful show on TV called, "Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman" about a wealthy Victorian daughter, brought up in a very proper east coast home, who defied her family and convention became a doctor and went out west, to the frontier to practice medicine where she thought she would be more accepted. It was on on Saturday nights. I have never enjoyed going out on Saturday nights as there are too many people and it's too obvious an expectation. I go out during the week and am much happier. I therefore admit my guilty pleasure in watching Dr. Mike every week while waiting for my husband to come home from work.

I started watching it for the costumes as it took place in the 1860's but she was a doctor in a Colorado frontier town so no one dressed up very much, their clothes were more practical than anything else. Since she grew up wealthy in Boston there were rare occasions she visited there or if her family came out to see her in Colorado there was spectacular Victoriana to see and marvel over. But the script was so painful, Dr. Mike was always saving everyone both physically and emotionally-there was always a pose or a lecture about doing the right thing. The real reason I kept watching was Sully, her boyfriend (not that anyone on that show would have ever called him that) and ultimately her husband. He was gorgeous!!! He was an American Indian and often wore a suede shirt and matching buckskins that hung just so across his chest and bottom. He had shoulder length wavy brown hair and that rugged whethered look complete with stubble. I am drooling just typing this...

 

I bring this all up because there is a man on the train who reminds me of Sully. In the summer, when I first noticed him he was a pretty close match-jeans that hung just so...and billowy plaid shirts with the long wavy hair and whetherd stubble. Today he has destroyed the illusion by wearing an incredibly stupid Dallas Cowboy football team knit ski hat. I am changing the channel.
