Last week a friend/coworker came from Chicago to NY and we, who talk all the time (which is how we got to be friends-she's a foodie in Chicago the way I am in NY!!) Finally got to meet each other person!! All we did was further our relationship and I think it made us both happy. Ok and we had a really FABULOUS evening!!!!! First, I took her on a tour of the office and she got to meet several other people, which is always fun.
We were invited on a tour of the Andaz Hotel and then for cocktails. The hotel is terrifically cool-the decor is as if you have a fabulously cool and amazing Tribeca loft that happens to have 100 sleeping rooms in it. And the event space floor has such a great gimmick! Again, as if you are in your fabulous Tribeca loft kitchen-you can really do a cocktail party there. In the kitchen!! There is a den with a bar and sofas, an outdoor rock garden, and some conference rooms that look more like they would be your bedrooms but with a conference table and flat screens. It really is spectacular!! But after that, we went downstairs, to the bar in the hotel, called, Downstairs, with the charming and delightful catering manager. The bar only serves pre-prohibition cocktails each with the perfect ice cube! I forgot to ask for my Negroni "up" (no ice) and yet the perfectly square cubes did not melt diluting the drink. The waitress brought the tray of drinks, each in a different glass, in a different color but each was gorgeous. And delicious! The three of us had such a wonderful time!!! We talked easily and comfortably about almost everything under the sun-from husbands to food to shaving. We just hit it off so perfectly. Then my friend and I went down to Matsugen (one of only two Jean-Georges restaurant I like) and we loved it. The food is divine-it's both authentic and modern at the same time but the quality is...well...encroyable!!! Mostly my friend and I just kept bonding. We're scheming how to get me to Chicago so we can go on tours of her city.
