Forgive me for being chronologically, incorrect in putting this piece up now. I have an essay I'm editing about my Passover experiences that should come first, so as not to be confusing, but I really didn't want to wait to tell this story, or to thank my anonymous blogger (as quickly as I could)!
On the way to The Meatball Shop (around the corner from Russ and Daughters), on Wednesday night, a young woman appeared out of nowhere, running after me shouting, "wait, wait!" I was wearing towering high heels which don't stay on my feet very well so I couldn't have been walking at more than a snail's pace (so as not to break my ankle). It didn't take her long to catch up to me to tell me that she was stalking me, but not in a bad creepy way!!! She explained that she loves polka dots and has a blog devoted to them, could she please please take my picture for it. I was thoroughly charmed but hesitant as I really don't like having my picture taken but I relented. We chatted, I got to brag a little about my Saint-Laurent shoes and we talked about the perfect 1920's red lipstick-which I am always on the lookout for! I began to be impressed by her intelligence and she loved that I dressed up every day, probably since so few people do anymore (sigh).
Every month, when I devour my Vogue and my Bazaar I come across those "photo-essays" in which the monthly "It" girl is shown and low and behold they seem to always be...like Marc Jacobs' best friend's sister or Donna Karan's cousin...the kind, as my glam best friend describes "if they weren't It girls they wouldn't be doing their jobs". It was really rather exciting being a polka dot "It girl" for a few minutes as I put a lot of time, effort, and money into my clothes. I will cherish the memory.
Check out her blog--her dots will really make you smile! www.lepolkadotchic.blogspot.com
Love this! It was MY pleasure madam. You ARE the It Girl.
Best,
